My name is Roanna Smith-Floyd (pen name Rowan Floyd, formerly Roanna Flowers), and I'm an author living and writing in Austin, Texas. I've written three award-winning comedic short films, one of which (#RIP) played in over 30 festivals world-wide including the Cannes Short Film Corner. My debut novel, TOO MUCH HEAVEN, is due to publish in late 2026 by Cackle Books.

I was raised on The Three Stooges, Monty Python, Mel Brooks, and Bugs Bunny. While other kids in kindergarten were listening to Disney soundtracks, I was listening to standup comedy albums (and also Disney albums). And while I was picked Most Likely To Be A Standup Comic in the 1st grade, I didn't start writing comedy until 45th grade. I was too busy trying to be serious (for some reason).

It didn't last.

Now, I write comedic upmarket/literary fiction ("litcoms"). My short story "The Bitches of Eastwick" was published in the anthology Mixed Bag of Tricks, a collection of stories by women, about women, published by a woman-owned press, available at Alienated Majesty Books, BookPeople and Reverie Books in Austin, and available online wherever books are sold. In a previous life, I was an acquisitions editor for a national magazine and interviewed Governor Ann Richards, General Colin Powell, and composer Paul Williams. My claim to fame was asking a question that made Ann Richards speechless.

When I'm not writing fiction, I'm writing for the state while trying to teach myself guitar and playing at learning French on DuoLingo so that my other dream of being a 21st century Yé-Yé Girl can come true.
